Week 1 [Day 1-Day 3]

[After a long stressful day like this has been, maybe you want to curl up in bed and try to sleep this whole thing off, or maybe you stay up all night desperately trying to find a way out of this town. Whether it be asking the cops for help, trying to steal a car, or just simply trying to walk out of town, you will unfortunately find your attempts to escape fruitless.

Even with it being obvious something strange is going on, no one has shown their face yet to even hint that they're the ones behind it. And you have no idea if or when they will.

However, in the very least you have a whole town to explore, and at the start of each day, and the beginning of every night, no matter where you are, you'll suddenly hear a radio crackle to life. Whether this is comforting or unsettling? Well, that's up to you to decide.

Just have a good time and try not think about the letter you got earlier, okay?]

[All right, that...was a pretty solid, handwaved asskicking there, jesus. He may have been embarrassed if it was something he were actually good at, but...well. For now he's just kind of amused.]

I suppose you still want to know about Lena?

[ She stretches, not really basking in her victory, but more the fact that she's gotten to do this again. It's been...awhile. ]

Yeah, I do. But only if you want to tell it. It'd go against the bet, otherwise.

I informed her that I thought she would be a satisfactory ruler, and I told her the reasons why. I also admitted that I wanted to keep her wisdom and beauty to myself. I told her that I wouldn't lie to her and say that I was in love with her, because it seems pointlessly cruel to lie about such things, but that overall it would be for the benefit of the country.

Really? [ She takes a moment to cover her face with her hand and then shrug helplessly. ] Well, if that's how you went about it, of course she said no.

As I said, it was a fair rejection. However, I imagine it would have been worse for both of us if I'd lied about loving her; I'm capable of many things, but that isn't one of them.

Well, of course that would've been less than ideal... [ She casts him a slightly puzzled look. ] You don't mean you haven't fallen in love before. Do you?

I haven't, but I meant more that I don't believe myself capable of lying to people about loving them. That seems low.

It is, you're right there. ...It's incredibly low.

I suppose...I'm not familiar with royal practices. It sounds like a horrible proposal, but are marriages of convenience more...common, in those?

Some are fortunate enough to love someone that would be acceptable for them to marry. Some do it for the sake of mergers or other conveniences. I suppose it depends on how fortunate one is.

I don't know whether my parents married for love or convenience; I never asked. I hear the ruler of Altea is interested in someone for love. I currently have no one that I would be interested in pursuing.

Well...for love or not, you went about it all wrong. Giving her compliments was a good idea, but saying you wanted to keep her beauty and smarts to herself? A bit of a warning sign. She may have been the kind of woman who wanted to find love herself.

I'm sure these are things you've gone over yourself, or thought about.

I didn't take the rejection out on her, if that's what you suspect happened.

I don't. But I can't imagine she saw it coming.

Lena didn't fear anything about me. It's why I asked her in the first place - I like those that don't.

Either way, I wasn't angry with her. I do understand her feelings regarding it; she refused, and we both let it go. That's all.

Most people, when speaking to the ruler of their country, possess at least some fear of offending them. Now imagine how it must be for those believing they're speaking to the second coming of their people's savior.

I don't mind it if they fear me. But it's interesting to me when they don't.

...So they treat you like...a sort of god, unable to say their real opinions out of fear. Is that it?
