Week 2 [Day 5 - Day 7]

[Well, that sure was a time.

When everyone wakes up this morning, one of the first things they're realize that the Mcdonald's suddenly looks abandoned. And not just from the fire, but it looks like it hasn't been open in years. The whole building looks like it could fall apart at any moment, and the entire Playplace is covered in rust.

Even the Ronald McDonald statue! D-:

However, if you ask any of the residents about the McDonald's, they still act as though is still open, and you'll most likely get some weird looks when you ask any questions about it that doesn't involve the weirdness of McPizza.

And, for those who have been here before, starting this week, you'll get a strange overwhelming sense that this place is familiar to you. You can't place how or why, but the sense of deja vu is persistent, and will stick with you for a long while. It's undeniable--you've definitely been here before, but you can't recall....

But hey, that's probably fine, right?]

[Integrity, huh.]

A lot of what I do is about ambition. But a lot of it is also about protecting my people and ensuring that my country can stand on its own. As both King of Macedon and the second incarnation of the savior Iote, it's my duty and my obligation to do so.

So I'm accustomed to defending those who can't. ...Your words are appreciated, however.

Ah, I-I didn't know you're... The King. S-sorry to talk like you didn't know about that responsibility... [Although on some level, he's aware the title probably doesn't hold any real governmental power where they're both standing, learning about it now, it still feels like it has power. Especially since the Earth he's from is run entirely by one ruler king, that's just how government works there, apparently so his initial estimation of Michalis' duties might be a Bit upscaled from reality.]

[...even with that in mind, while Mark can grasp the broad strokes of what he's saying- of leadership, of taking on the responsibility of ensuring the safety of his people- that's not enough to get the full picture of what Michalis is talking about.]

...though, I'm... in the dark about Iote. I'm not sure I can appreciate... the significance of the name without knowing who they are- what they've done, if... you'd mind telling me.

I don't expect you to know.

[It's as blunt as ever; neither gentle nor overly sharp, just kind of a thing. A lot of people don't know here, it's fine.]

Iote was the first King of Macedon. He led a rebellion against the empire that controlled our people, uniting them and bringing them to the forests on the outskirts of what is now Dolhr, which is where Macedon was founded.

He's regarded as a legendary hero who saved us and brought us out of captivity. Sort of like Moses in this book I found in my room. They say I'm his second coming.

[Being told he's the reincarnation of this Iote figure, Mark considers, for a moment, asking if Michalis remembers anything from this past life. ...but that's probably too personal a question to ask someone he's not too familiar with- prying into sensitive memories like that. All he's saying sounds like extremely important history, probably deeply sacred stuff to him and his people. Quizzing him on every last detail might just make him sound like some nosy tourist gawking at all of it.]

[Instead, he lets Michalis's words sit for a while, and says what he can.]

...Macedon sounds like it's in good hands now.

I-I hope we can find a way back for you.

I'm concerned without being worried.

[That's the best way he can describe it right now. Concern, but not worry. It seems right.]

We're strong people. I've guided them, I've shown them how to harness that strength, but I am not the source of it. They'll carry through regardless of what happens to me, or to anyone who may rule in my stead. I have faith in them.

[Mark scratches at the back of his neck, feeling... severely humbled by Michalis' faith in Macedon.] Yeah... I, didn't consider that... but I do suppose a figurehead idn't doing a lotta good to the world if all they do is put up that expectation of, "I'm the strongest here, so all you better sit back and depend on me". That's something like... codependency. At best. [...he sounds... guilty, in a way, describing that.]

If it means anything- though I haven't known you long, given... what you say, and how you say it, there ain't a doubt in my mind that you've done a good job motivating your people to becoming the best they can be.

I've done what I can for them.

Was that something you thought you wanted, back where you came from? You wanted the people to depend on you, though maybe not in so many words?

...it's... not something I'm wanting for. [His exhale sounds right between a weak laugh and a sigh.] The whole world already sees me as its lifeline.

[...]

...won't bog you down with it all, I-I still have to work through most of it, myself- but... the very least, I owe it to the people of Earth to step down from the pedestal I put myself on.

You're hardly bogging me down if I asked about it in the first place, and if you were rendering yourself obnoxious I would tell you.

I will warn you, however, that the will of the people is volatile. It's likely they will turn on you if you try to enact change, particularly if they respect you in such a way. It's strange how they tend to work with regards to such things, but so it is.
